The BOMA Healthcare Conference was held on May 3-5. Over 800 owners, investors, developers, vendors and healthcare providers attended from around the country. Sunny Orlando set the stage for an interesting three days of networking, deal making and enlightening panel discussions.
Bigger is better is the name of the game in the healthcare industry, as evidenced by the wave of deals announced Thursday, reaching a combined total of more than $40 billion. Some of the deal activity among medical device makers and pharmaceutical companies can be explained by the belief that gaining scale and becoming a leading provider is essential for effectively negotiating business with hospitals and insurers.
Newmark Knight Frank’s Global Healthcare Services team recently represented a regional health system tenant to renew 35 medical office leases and negotiate two new leases for a total of 146,170 SF and a total lease value of $21, 518,229 at five different St. Louis area MOB locations.
Hospital CFOs crunched the numbers to see how various physician specialties stack up according to the amount of revenue they generate for their affiliated hospital. For the survey, researchers from Merritt Hawkins, a national physician search firm, asked hospital CFOs to quantify the amount of revenue physicians in 18 medical specialties generated for their affiliate hospital in the previous 12 months.
You can’t talk about the healthcare industry today without bringing up wellness, a concept that’s been nudged to the forefront by reform, the aging population, and the demands of a more competitive market. Healthcare that focuses on total, lifelong health and not just sickness and emergencies is a rallying cry with no end in sight.
