John earned a Bachelor of Arts in Engineering with honors at Georgia Tech.

PROFESSIONAL BACKGROUND

John Cobb is a Managing Director in the Atlanta office of Newmark Knight Frank, joining in 2011 in conjunction with the firm’s acquisition of an Atlanta-based boutique real estate firm. Specializing in the representation of end users, Mr. Cobb fulfills multiple roles within the Global Healthcare Services organization, where he:

  • Leads national business development in the hospital sector, advising hospitals across the US on strategies related to cost reduction, capital strategies, portfolio optimization, and property acquisition/disposition.

  • Advises multiple practice groups, both local and national, in the areas of acquisitions, property ownership cycles, market coverage strategies, and strategic lease renewals.


PARTIAL LIST OF TRANSACTION EXPERIENCE

  • Monetization of a 320,000 SF hospital-owned medical portfolio

  • Site selection and lease negotiation for office requirements ranging from a few thousand to over 75,000 SF

  • Acquisition strategy and execution of multiple 30,000+ SF clinical and surgery facilities

  • Early renegotiation of multiple lease portfolios in excess of 100,000 SF each, reducing operating expenses by over 10% per year

  • Strategy oversight for clinical portfolios with as many as 75 locations

As a degreed engineer, John applies a thorough, systematic approach to all client matters. Be it a property monetization, a relocate-versus-renew analysis, a leveraged lease restructuring, buy-versus-lease analysis, or a market coverage strategy, John’s clients benefit from reliable projections and a data-based approach. Clients further benefit from his specialized industry understanding, including economic trends, regulatory requirements, competitor evaluation, supply/demand dynamics, and specialized site requirements and availabilities.


EXPERIENCE

Prior to his real estate career, John served in various capacities in the multiple business sectors. His positions included Vice President of Sales and Marketing for a privately-held technology sales and installation company, national account management for a telecommunications provider, and engineering positions in both the power and communications industries.


PERSONAL

John is a native of Sandy Springs, Georgia. Married since 1991, he resides in Lilburn with his wife Sharon and two University of Georgia children (when they are home from college). The Cobbs are active members of a growing church and are engaged in marriage and family ministry activities, various sports and fitness activities, and camping.
